Naidu remand ends on Thursday, will he get bail?

The judicial remand of Telugu Desam Party president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu in the alleged multi-crore skill development scam case comes to an end on Thursday, as suspense prevails over his fate.

The special court for Anti-Corruption Bureau cases in Vijayawada on Wednesday deferred to Thursday a petition of Naidu seeking bail in the case after prolonged hearing.

If the ACB court shows any mercy towards Naidu, it may not extend his remand and he would automatically be released on bail. But if the bail is denied, he would have to be in jail till the Supreme Court gives him any relief.

In any case, the CID is ready with two more cases against the TDP chief, even if he gets any relief in any of these cases, unless he gets bail in all these cases.

On Wednesday, the ACB court heard the arguments of Naidu’s counsel Pramod Dubey and that of additional advocate general (AAG) Ponnavolu Sudhakar Reddy arguing for the state government for over six hours, before deferring the case by a day.

The court also heard the arguments over the petition of the AAG seeking the custody of Naidu for further interrogation by the Crime Investigation Department in the case.

Meanwhile, the state high court deferred to October 12 a petition filed by Naidu’s son and TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh seeking anticipatory bail in the skill development case. The high court ordered that the CID should not arrest Lokesh till then.
