YSRC avoids no-trust motion, backs Modi

The YSR Congress party appears to have decided against supporting the no-confidence motion moved by I.N.D.I.A (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance), an alliance of opposition parties against Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government on Manipur issue.

While the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), the ruling party in Telangana, also gave a separate notice for the no-confidence motion, the YSRC, the ruling party in Andhra Pradesh has not evinced any interest.

According to party sources, the party MPs would stay away from the voting after the House takes up discussion on the Manipur issue.

The stand of the YSRC was evident from the statement of its parliamentary party leader and general secretary V Vijay Sai Reddy who said the YSRC would not appreciate the stand taken by the opposition parties.

“We are not against the discussion on the Manipur issue, but will not support the opposition parties in stalling the Parliament session. They cannot hold the parliament to ransom,” he said.

Stating that the Manipur issue is an issue of internal security, Sai Reddy said it would be dealt by the Union home ministry.

“When Union Home Minister Amit Shah declared that the government was ready for a discussion and that he would give answers to all the queries of the opposition parties, why should there be ruckus?” the YSRC leader said, adding that there was no use in stalling the proceedings of both the Houses of Parliament.

It is quite obvious that the YSRC does not want to antagonise Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party leadership by joining hands with the other opposition parties.

The YSRC has not issued even a single statement condemning the violence in Manipur, more particularly the latest incident of naked parade of three women and their rape by the rival groups.

Interestingly, even the Telugu Desam Party has not opened up on the Manipur issue. So far, there is no statement from the TDP leaders on the party stand on the no-confidence motion against the Modi government.
