In a shocking development, a Circle Inspector (CI) in Palnadu district has been suspended for his alleged role in an honour killing case in Macherla.
The suspended officer, identified as Venkataramana, is accused of helping the parents of a young woman named Chowdeswari, despite knowing that she had already entered into a love marriage of her own choice.
According to allegations, the police officer accepted money from the woman’s parents and then forcibly handed her over to them, an act that is now believed to have directly led to her death.
Following an internal inquiry, officials reportedly found that the CI had played a serious role in the chain of events that ended in the honour killing.
Based on these findings, Palnadu District Superintendent of Police Krishnarao issued orders suspending the officer.
Preliminary reports suggest that Venkataramana not only failed to protect the couple, but also allegedly misused his position by facilitating the woman’s return to her parents in exchange for a large amount of money.
The case has triggered outrage because the victim was not just betrayed by her own family, but allegedly also by the very system that was supposed to protect her.
Further investigation is currently underway.
