The proposed MAVIGUN (Machilipatnam, Vijayawada, Guntur) corridor development, suggested by YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, has become a major topic of discussion in Andhra Pradesh.
The public is responding with mixed reactions. While many people are smiling or even laughing with a sense of cringe after hearing the name “MAVIGUN,” opinions about selecting this region are also divided.
A person from Vijayawada said, “It will be really good if the Machilipatnam, Vijayawada and Guntur belt is chosen as the capital zone. It will be far better than Amaravati, which is low lying and relatively far. As Jagan mentioned, the cost of building the capital zone in this belt will also be less expensive.”
Another person said, “It is all useless talk. Jagan should have mentioned this during his first term itself. At that time, he spoke about Amaravati, Visakhapatnam and Kurnool. Now he is introducing new names like Machilipatnam, Vijayawada and Guntur. It is all just a time-pass discussion. Amaravati should remain the only capital of Andhra Pradesh.”
Another resident from Vijayawada shared a different view.
“People took Chandrababu Naidu seriously in 2014 and farmers came forward to give their lands in the Amaravati region for capital development. Investors also invested in real estate of Amaravathi zone to some extent. After Jagan came to power, trust in Amaravati declined. Now, to understand whether people are taking MAVIGUN seriously, we need to see if real estate values in this belt, especially from Machilipatnam to Guntur, start increasing. If that happens, we can assume people believe in the MAVIGUN proposal. Otherwise, the YSRCP chief should understand that people are not trusting him.”
While the MAVIGUN proposal may continue to trigger mixed political reactions, the reflection of public opinion may ultimately be seen in real estate trends in the region.
