It has been more than three weeks since the Andhra Pradesh high court gave the verdict declaring Amaravati as the only capital of the state; but the Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy government has not taken any decision yet on moving the Supreme Court challenging the high court verdict.
Instead, Jagan and his party leaders chose to find fault with the high court judgement on Amaravati by holding a debate in the state assembly.
Analysts say the debate would not help Jagan in any manner on the three capitals issue and would not even fetch him any political mileage either.
“At the most it might convey a message to the people that Jagan is committed to the three capitals,” an analyst said.
But unless there is a logical conclusion to the whole issue, the uncertainty continues to prevail on the capital issue. There won’t be any clarity as to whether Amaravati will continue to be the capital or there would be three capital cities in future.
Bharatiya Janata Party senior leader and Union tourism minister G Kishan Reddy said it would be better if Jagan government moved the Supreme Court, if it didn’t approve of the high court judgement.
“That is the only option. The outburst in the assembly against the judgement will not help Jagan in any manner. If he moves the Supreme Court, the issue would be resolved once and for all. It will decide whether the high court judgement is correct or not and whether the state can go ahead with three capitals or not,” Kishan Reddy said.
He said Jagan still has the option of moving the Supreme Court.
“Instead, if he chooses a path of confrontation with the judiciary, it will not augur well for the democracy,” Reddy added.
