Senior YSR Congress party leader and former minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy was at last released on bail from Nellore jail on Wednesday after serving judicial remand for nearly 90 days.
He came out of the jail amidst raising slogans by his party leaders, followers and workers.
Speaking to reporters later, Kakani said he was feeling absolutely at home in Nellore jail, as majority of the prisoners were YSRCP leaders and cadres. Even the jail staff were supporters of Jagan, he said.
Kakani condemned the government’s tactics of using false cases and arrests to silence dissent. He stated that such actions would not deter him from advocating for the people.
Kakani, a former ZP Chairman, two-time MLA, and minister, highlighted the unprecedented nature of his imprisonment in Nellore’s history, driven by six social media cases and seven PT warrants.
He criticized the government for reopening a year-old chargesheet and filing baseless cases, including one alleging he attacked someone questioning liquor distribution during elections - a claim unsupported by media.
Another false case accused him of illegally blasting a reservoir, which a magistrate dismissed, he said.
Kakani accused the coalition of targeting YSRCP leaders, citing the attack on former minister Nallapureddy Prasanna Kumar Reddy’s home and arrests of his aides.
Kakani vowed that such tactics would only strengthen his resolve to expose the government’s misdeeds.
He thanked YSRCP chief YS Jagan for visiting him in jail, boosting his morale. Kakani pledged to continue his fight against anti-people policies and strengthen YSRCP, undeterred by arrests or cases.
He also criticized unchecked exploitation in Sarvepalli by Somireddy and his son during his three-month detention, promising future accountability.
Kakani expressed gratitude to his daughter Poojitha, party MLCs, leaders, and workers for their support during his incarceration, vowing to stand by them in the ongoing struggle.
