Caste survey to fetch huge mileage to Jagan

The latest decision of YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy to conduct the caste survey in the state, much ahead of the other states, including Telangana, is expected to fetch huge mileage to the ruling party in the coming elections.

As the demand for caste-based survey is gaining strength across the country, the state cabinet which met on Friday decided to commence the caste-based survey from November 15.

“This is going to be a game-changer for the YSRCP, which is already getting a positive image among the BCs with Jagan providing 50 per cent quota in every political decisions and government schemes,” sources said.

The Backward Classes communities have been asking for a caste survey for better delivery of government schemes but also adequate political representation based on their population.

The cabinet decided to take up a comprehensive caste-based survey to identify the exact number of people belonging to oppressed classes so as to extend them socio-economic benefits. It will help alleviate the lives of oppressed classes and taking their social empowerment to next level.

The survey will take into consideration various factors such as socio-economic status of the people, employment-oriented education and caste balance in society.

The survey will help create a data base of the weaker sections in the society, so that the government could extend its welfare schemes and other economic benefits,

The cabinet also felt that the survey would also help identify people who were left out in the implementation of welfare schemes.

“We can plan more poverty alleviation programmes and human resources development schemes so as to remove the economic disparities in the society,” the minister Venugopala Krishna said.
