First Report: Ustaad Bhagat Singh Lacks Freshness

Ustaad Bhagat Singh, the Telugu action-comedy starring Pawan Kalyan, Sreeleela and Raashii Khanna, hit theatres on March 19 on the occasion of Ugadi.

Directed by Harish Shankar and produced by Mythri Movie Makers, the film released across India after its premiere shows in North America on March 18.

Soon after the early shows, audience reactions started pouring in on social media, especially on X (Twitter). While these are only initial responses and not full reviews, they give a rough idea about the film’s reception. Detailed reviews are expected to follow.

As per early talk, the film has received a mixed response. Many viewers feel that while it is a typical commercial entertainer, it lacks freshness. The narrative is being described as outdated, with scenes that feel familiar and predictable from start to finish.

A few mass elevation moments have worked for fans, but overall, the film is said to lack proper flow, appearing more like a collection of commercial sequences stitched together.

Director Harish Shankar is being criticised for weak writing in both comedy and commercial elements. The humour reportedly does not land well, and the emotional connect is also said to be missing.

Music director Thaman’s background score adds some energy in parts, but the film does not give him enough scope to elevate the scenes consistently.

Pawan Kalyan delivers in a few moments, but many feel that his trademark energy is not fully visible this time.

Overall, early reactions suggest that the film struggles to impress beyond a few mass moments, with several viewers pointing out that the content feels dated and lacks impact.

A detailed review will follow.
