Fighting for justice, not assets: Sharmila

Fighting for justice, not assets: Sharmila

Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Y S Sharmila on Monday launched a sharp attack on YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leadership for targeting her by raising issues related to property disputes with her brother Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, as part of diverting attention from the murder of Y S Vivekananda Reddy.

Addressing a press conference, Sharmila expressed strong displeasure over what she termed as attempts to politicize family matters for electoral gain.

She alleged that even close family members, including their mother Y S Vijayamma, were being dragged into controversies.

Clarifying her position, Sharmila said she has no interest in property disputes.

“If assets were my priority, I would have approached the courts long ago. My agenda is not property; otherwise, I would not be engaged in this fight,” she asserted.

In a direct attack, she alleged that it was Jagan who was enjoying others’ assets, not her.

Reacting strongly to criticism over a letter issued by Vijayamma regarding family matters, Sharmila dismissed allegations that the letter was obtained under pressure.

“If I had forced her to sign, couldn’t she publicly say the signature was not hers? Does she not have that freedom?” she questioned.

Sharmila accused Jagan of avoiding direct engagement on the issue.

“He knows the contents of the letter are true. That is why he remains silent and hides behind his social media machinery. Does he have the courage to come forward and speak directly?” she asked.

She also targeted the pro-YSRCP daily Sakshi newspaper, accusing it of selectively ignoring facts.

“You publish banners with ‘Satyameva Jayate’ and YSR’s photo, but could you not carry Vijayamma’s letter even on the last page? Is this your respect for truth?” she remarked.

Sharmila reiterated that her primary focus remains securing justice in the Vivekananda Reddy murder case and warned against attempts to sidetrack the issue through asset-related debates.
