Sai Reddy slams YSRCP MPs' silence on Renuka remarks

Sai Reddy slams YSRCP MPs' silence on Renuka remarks

Former YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader and ex-Rajya Sabha MP V. Vijayasai Reddy has launched a sharp attack on the party’s Members of Parliament, accusing them of remaining silent when the party was being targeted by political rivals.

Sai Reddy was referring to remarks made by Congress Rajya Sabha MP Renuka Chowdhury, who criticised YSRCP president and former Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy during a parliamentary debate on granting legal status to Amaravati as the capital.

During the debate, Renuka Chowdhury, speaking in support of the Bill, made pointed comments questioning Jagan’s stand on Amaravati.

Recalling her earlier opposition to Jagan’s position, she said she had publicly challenged him at the time.

“I challenged him to call the capital Amaravati or even Kammaravati,” she remarked.

Her comments were aimed at highlighting what she described as Jagan’s shifting or controversial stance on the capital issue during a politically sensitive period.

While Sai Reddy did not respond directly to Renuka Chowdhury’s remarks, he strongly criticised the YSRCP MPs for their silence both inside and outside Parliament.

He said the party’s members in the Rajya Sabha neither intervened nor objected to her comments, nor did they issue any condemnation after the debate.

Taking to social media platform X, Sai Reddy posted a strongly worded message questioning the political response of the party’s parliamentary representatives.

“When a Congress MP was speaking disparagingly about the president of your own party in the Rajya Sabha, did it not provoke even the slightest reaction? Why did you not stop it? Why did you not condemn it? Have you become silent spectators?” he asked.

Sai Reddy also shared a video clip of Renuka Chowdhury’s speech in the Rajya Sabha along with his post, bringing the issue into public focus.

His remarks indicate a broader dissatisfaction with what he sees as the YSRCP’s weak parliamentary response and lack of political aggression following its recent electoral setbacks.
