Andhra workers ill-treated in Bahrain: Jagan

YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has expressed concern over the plight of hundreds of workers from state in Bahrain, a country in the Middle East, where they had gone for work several years ago.

In a letter written to Union minister of external affairs S Jayashankar on Monday, the chief minister said several Indian workers were being ill-treated by their employers in Bahrain and a sizeable number of the workers belonged to Andhra Pradesh.

“They have sought assistance of the Indian government to return to their hometowns in India, as they were unable to bear the suffering in Bahrain,” he said.

In this regard, Jagan said he would like to bring to the notice of the Centre that the state government would extend all possible support to Government of India in repatriating the affected workers, belonging to Andhra Pradesh, from Bahrain.

“I request the Officials from your good office to reach out to Resident Commissioner, Andhra Pradesh Bhavan or Officers from my Office (Chief Minister's Office, Andhra Pradesh) for any assistance needed for repatriating the affected workers belonging to Andhra Pradesh,” he said.
