Naidu Eyeing More Land In The Name Of Airport?

It looks like Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu is eyeing more land acquisition around Amaravati in the name of “world-class international airport.”

Naidu, who reviewed the development of Amaravati at an official meeting on Wednesday wanted that Amaravati should have world class infrastructure coupled with quality social infrastructure to enhance the liveability quotient to make it most liveable city on earth.

As part of that Naidu directed the officials to plan for an International airport near Mangalgiri, which should act as an anchor for the economy. He envisioned that destination to destination flights should fly from Amaravati to all major parts of the globe.

There is already an airport at Gannavaram which is hardly 30 km from Amaravati core region and there is ample scope for developing the same into international airport. If another airport is constructed at Mangalagiri, it is not only a waste of money, but will also make the Gannavaram airport redundant and it will ultimately get wound up as was the case of Begumpet airport in Hyderabad which became defunct after the Shamshabad airport came up.

And the new airport requires vast extent of land and Naidu has once again acquire another 4-5,000 acres of land from farmers. And it is bound to rake up controversies in the coming days.
