A 26-year-old software engineer from Bihar allegedly died by suicide at her apartment in Miyapur, under Hyderabad’s Cyberabad limits, reportedly due to harassment by her husband over additional dowry demands, police said.
The deceased, Ishita Yadav, was found hanging from a ceiling fan in the hall of her apartment on Wednesday evening. Her husband, Neeraj Bansal, reportedly informed the police after discovering her.
According to the police, Ishita and Neeraj had first met through social media in 2020. Ishita was from Bihar, while Neeraj hailed from Madhya Pradesh.
The two were said to have been in a relationship for nearly five years before getting married in Patna on February 20 this year, in the presence of their family members.
After the wedding, the couple moved to Hyderabad, where both were working in the software sector.
According to the complaint filed by the victim’s parents, problems reportedly began after marriage when Neeraj allegedly started harassing and pressuring Ishita for additional dowry.
They also alleged that he had been demanding that her family invest money in a startup company he had recently launched.
Based on the complaint, the Miyapur police have registered an FIR and launched an investigation.
The body has been shifted to Gandhi Hospital for postmortem examination.
Police said the husband has been taken into custody and is being questioned. Further investigation is underway.
