Vidyasagar Rao back into active politics?

Vidyasagar Rao back into active politics?

It is generally very rare that senior politicians who served as Governors of any state return to active politics again, after completion of their terms.

We have seen very few such leaders like N D Tiwari, Marri Channa Reddy and Margaret Alwa, who staged a comeback into active politics in their respective states after functioning as governors of other states.

Now, the latest news is that Maharasthra governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao, who is relinquishing Raj Bhavan after the completion of his term, is planning to return to active politics of Bharatiya Janata Party in Telangana.

Vidyasagar Rao tried for an extension as Governor of Maharashtra but could not get it. He even lobbied for posting in some other state, but the BJP leadership wants him to go back to his native Telangana state, where there is a leadership crisis.

Vidyasagar Rao held several positions in Telangana BJP, including party floor leader in the state assembly, two-time MP and also Union minister in Vajpayee cabinet, before he was sent to Maharashtra as the governor.

According to BJP sources, Rao will take the lead the party campaign for 2023. A prominent Velama leader, his entry will help the BJP swing the Velama votes towards the BJP. He is a known figure and a prominent face in north Telangana.

All said and done, Vidyasagar Rao has still not attained the age to retire from politics.

Keeping it in view, the party is learnt to have asked him to play bigger role in the Telangana and lead the party to victory in the 2023 elections.
