A couple of days after the Karnataka government claimed that it had signed an agreement with Taiwanese multinational electronics giant Foxconn Technology group for setting up of its manufacturing facility in Bengaluru, the Telangana government came out with evidence that the facility is, in fact, coming up in Hyderabad.
The Telangana government on Monday released a letter written by Foxconn chairman Young Liu to chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, stating that his company was committed to establishing its manufacturing facility at Kongara Kalan on the outskirts of Hyderabad.
Liu, while thanking KCR for the excellent hospitality accorded to him when he came to Hyderabad on March 2, sought the support of Telangana government’s team in operationalizing the Kongar Kalan Park as early as possible.
On March 4, the Karnataka government claimed that Foxconn, the original equipment manufacturer for Apple and several other electronics and mobile companies, would make $700 million investment on its new plant near the international airport at Bengaluru.
Karnataka chief minister Baswaraj Bommai tweeted: “Agreement signed with Foxconn, leading electronics major, to make major investment in state after a detailed discussion with co’s C’man Young Liu. It will expected to create 1 lakh jobs. 300 acres of land near Bengaluru Int. airport allocated (sic).”
But Liu’s letter to KCR nailed Bommai’s claims. He also extended an invitation to KCR to Taiwan as his personal guest mentioning that it would be his honour to host the Telangana chief minister in Taipei.
On March 2, Liu had a meeting with KCR at the latter’s camp office Pragathi Bhavan in Hyderabad, where it was agreed that Foxconn would set up electronics manufacturing facility in Telangana with employment generation potential for over one lakh people directly and indirectly over a period of 10 years.
The Foxconn chairman said his organization had studied extensively about Telangana and was all praise for the state’s industry-friendly ecosystem. He said he was optimistic about the investments of his company in Telangana.
