EC puts brakes on Rythu Bandhu payments

The Election Commission of India (ECI) issued orders on Monday instructing the Telangana government to cease the distribution of Rythu Bandhu funds.

This decision came after BRS party leaders violated the Model Code of Conduct by making statements on the scheme.

Although the EC had initially permitted the State government to disburse funds to farmers under Rythu Bandhu, it subsequently took action.

In the order, Avinash Kumar, Principal Secretary at ECI, mentioned that Finance Minister T Harish Rao had made statements about Rythu Bandhu during the election campaign, which received extensive media coverage.

T Harish Rao, a prominent campaigner for the BRS party, breached the election code of conduct by announcing that Rythu Bandhu funds would be disbursed starting from November 28.

In response to this violation of the poll code, the EC issued orders preventing the state government from making payments to farmers under the scheme.
