We have seen how former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa had introduced the culture of personality cult in her state.
People in her state had given her the image of goddess; they constructed temples for her and worshipped her. The MLAs never used to sit before her and they used to prostrate at her feet.
Such a culture is very new in the Telugu states. Even when Telugu Desam Party founder-president N T Rama Rao was in power, he never used to encourage such a culture, though he had the real godly image among the people. We had never seen MLAs going head over heels to worship him.
But now, we are witnessing such a culture in Telangana with chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao encouraging it.
Though no doubt KCR was instrumental in bringing Telangana, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi leaders have gone overboard to project him as the saviour of Telangana, god of Telangana and even father of Telangana.
They conducted special prayers in temples, worshipped his photos and garlanded his portraits at several junctions, put up banners and hoardings all over Telangana.
This was never witnessed in the past, but for the first time, there is an attempt to give him the divine image on his 63rd birthday. May be, the Tamil Nadu culture is gradually entering our system!
