A latest and shocking incident of child sexual abuse has come to light in Banapuram village under I. Polavaram mandal, allegedly involving a local Jana Sena Party leader, triggering uproar from the people.
According to the reports, a 10-year-old girl studying in sixth standard was allegedly subjected to repeated sexual assault by a local Jana Sena leader, identified as Rayapureddy Satya Venkata Krishna alias Bobby.
According to police, the accused lured the minor into a nearby building after school hours and committed the offence multiple times.
The matter came to light when the girl’s mother grew suspicious and questioned her while she was returning from the building.
The victim then revealed the ordeal, prompting the family to approach the district Superintendent of Police.
Following the SP’s directions, Polavaram police registered a case under Section 6 of the POCSO Act and Section 376 of the IPC.
The incident has triggered outrage across the district, with activists and political leaders demanding strict punishment for the accused.
This case comes close on the heels of another shocking incident in Tuni (Kakinada district), where a minor girl studying in a local Gurukula school was sexually assaulted by a 60-year-old man named Narayana Rao.
He allegedly took the girl to a nearby sapota orchard under the pretext of taking her home. A local youth filmed the act and alerted villagers, leading to the accused being caught and beaten up by the public.
The video went viral on social media, prompting swift police action. However, while being taken to court, the accused allegedly jumped into a lake and ended his life.
The two consecutive incidents have reignited public debate on women’s and children’s safety in Andhra Pradesh.
