Jagan to change more than 60% sitting MLAs?

YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has been sounding highly optimistic at every party meeting on achieving his target of winning 175 out of 175 assembly seats in the next elections scheduled to be held in 2024.

But it appears the YSRC is facing more anti-incumbency than what is expected in various constituencies in the state. According to party sources, Jagan got this feedback from a latest survey conducted by the Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC), the political strategic consultancy firm hired by the party.

It is not that there is much opposition from the people to the schemes and programmes being implemented by Jagan per se, but the people are apparently vexed with the performance of the local MLAs and their corrupt practices.

The I-PAC is learnt to have made a survey on the performance of the MLAs, their strengths and weaknesses vis-à-vis the Telugu Desam Party leaders at the constituency level.

Apart from securing the feedback on the sitting YSRCP MLAs, the team also surveyed the popularity graph of the opposition candidates.

The I-PAC also revealed that in many constituencies, there are a lot of groups within the YSRC and that might ultimately affect the party prospects. At the same time, it also studied how far the TDP has gained strength and whether there are any internal differences within the TDP.

The I-PAC teams presented a report to Jagan on which constituencies he should change the MLAs and the reasons for the same.

According to sources, the team has suggested that at least 60 per cent of the sitting MLAs have to be replaced by new faces, if the party has to win these seats.

However, Jagan is not entirely depending on this survey report. He is interacting with various sections of people within the constituencies and obtaining their feedback directly, so that he can compare the same with the I-PAC team report.

“Only if his own feedback matches with that of I-PAC, he will go for change of the MLAs in these constituencies. He may give some more time to the MLAs to improve their performance, so that he will get some confidence,” the party source added.
