KCR promised 12% reservation to Muslims if Telangana becomes a reality. Venkayya Naidu promised special status to AP for a period of ten years. And Chandrababu promised reservation to Kapus. KCR and Chandrababu’s promises are not legally tenable.
As for Venkayya Naidu’s promise, the 14th finance commission is against it. This was a body not even in existence when he made the promise.
Which brings us to the question: Were these people not aware of the legal and technical difficulties while making these promises? If they were not, then they are not qualified to be holding their current positions. If they were, it just makes them out to be plain hypocrites.
It is worth considering that all three were immensely successful with their electoral objectives after making such promises.
