Chargesheet against KTR ready, but no arrests?

Chargesheet against KTR ready, but no arrests?

The Telangana government is preparing to file chargesheets in several high-profile cases linked to alleged irregularities during the previous BRS regime, including phone tapping, financial misconduct, and corruption in the Formula E car race matter.

According to sources, the chargesheets may be filed before the conclusion of the ongoing Assembly budget session at the end of this month.

However, analysts say the Revanth Reddy government is unlikely to make any immediate arrests of BRS leaders, including K T Rama Rao, or senior officials such as Arvind Kumar, as that could hand them a political advantage.

“The government wants to leave the matter to the court,” an analyst said.

Sources said the Revanth government is adopting a cautious approach. The strategy appears to focus on presenting strong evidence to establish culpability before taking further legal action.

The phone-tapping case remains a key focus. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has already filed supplementary chargesheets in a Nampally court naming five accused. However, challenges remain, including the reported loss of crucial forensic evidence in a fire at the FSL office.

Sources indicate that naming former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao as an accused in the phone-tapping case would require extensive examination of senior officials, including former chief secretaries and intelligence chiefs.

Speculation suggests that the chargesheet may include a former minister, key political figures, and several police officials allegedly involved in phone tapping and related extortion activities.

There are also allegations that influential corporate entities have escaped scrutiny, potentially weakening the investigations.

Opposition voices claim that agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate and the Income Tax Department have not acted decisively in certain cases.

With local body elections approaching, the government is expected to intensify legal proceedings and bring key cases before the courts in an effort to shape public perception.

However, concerns remain that bureaucrats could become scapegoats in these politically sensitive investigations.
