Castes play a very important role in Andhra Pradesh politics. Generally, Kapus are considered to be bitter rivals of Kammas and hence, there is no surprise in Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu dealing the agitation of Mudragada Padmanabham with utter contempt.
Interestingly, the Kammas treat even Brahmin community, which is in minority in AP, with contempt, as they think they are more intellectuals than Brahmins.
Compared to Kammas, Brahmins enjoyed a lot of patronage from Reddys in Telangana and Andhra. So, there is no surprise that the Brahmins are looking at the demand of Kapus to be included in BCs sympathetically.
On Wednesday, fasting Mudragada received a strong support from Brahmin leader Vundavalli Arun Kumar. The former MP from Rajahmundry visited Mudragada and accused Naidu of dodging the issue deliberately.
“If Naidu thinks, he can resolve the issue within five minutes and make Mudragada withdraw his fast. All that he should do is to instruct the police to withdraw cases against the arrested youth and get them released from jail. But Naidu is acting with vengeance against Mudragada. There lies the whole problem,” he said.
