Will People Trust Naidu's Promises?

Will People Trust Naidu's Promises?

TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu announced the party's partial manifesto during his concluding speech at Mahanadu on Sunday evening.

The partial manifesto was filled with a bunch of freebies, which he and his party have been campaigning against in the state, targeting Jagan Mohan Reddy.

They have alleged that with these freebies, Jagan has destroyed the state's economy, leading it to a Sri Lanka-type economic crisis.

However, Naidu has now come up with even more freebies, and one wonders where he will take the state's economy if all of these are to be implemented!

Some of the promised freebies include free bus travel for all women, three free LPG cylinders per year for every family, Rs 15,00 monthly for every woman between the ages of 18 and 59, and Rs 15,000 per year for every mother, among others.

Naidu made similar promises during the 2014 elections, which included a total loan waiver for farmers, weavers, and self-help groups (SHGs), an unemployment stipend of Rs 2000 for every unemployed youth, and the establishment of Anna Canteens, among others.

However, when he came to power, he introduced a scale of finance and only paid Rs 1.50 lakh to a few farmers instead of fulfilling his promise of a complete loan waiver. He also failed to fulfill the promise of a loan waiver for weavers and SHG women's groups.

He introduced fewer than 500 Anna Canteens in the state just six months before the 2019 elections.

He only provided Rs 1000 as an unemployment stipend to those recommended by the Janma Bhoomi committees.

Given this track record, the question arises whether people will take Chandrababu Naidu's manifesto seriously and believe him.
