Watch: MLA Brings House Down with 'Broken English'

On the importance of English as medium instruction, several ministers and MLAs spoke at length in Andhra Pradesh assembly but it is Biyyapu Madhusudhan Reddy’s, the MLA from Sri Kalahasthi, the speech was well-received.

Laced with humor, he narrated his personal experiences of problems that arose for not well-versed in the English language. The entire assembly erupted into laughter when he spoke with anecdotes.

“I finished my education in Telugu medium. Recently when YS Jagan garu went to the USA, I went to join him. Since I am Telugu medium student, my proficiency in English is poor. At the immigration counter, the USA officials asked me the reason for the visit. I told them in my typical broken English: “Big Meeting….gathering…saar I am going to meeting sir …”

"They couldn’t understand a single word of me but they misconstrued my body language and made me sit aside for the questioning for about two hours. Vasudeva Reddy garu came to my rescue,” he narrated the incident amidst laughter.

He also took potshots at Chandrababu Naidu and Pawan Kalyan.

“Today even Chinese people are also learning English. For that matter, even Chandrababu Naidu’s grandson is also being taught in the Chinese language,” he quipped.

He also said Pawan Kalyan’s sons and daughters are studying in English medium.
