YSRCP president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has taken an aggressive stand against the proposed privatisation of medical colleges that were established during his tenure.
Jagan has made it clear that he will not accept the privatisation of these medical colleges under any circumstances.
He has already warned that if his party returns to power, the colleges will be brought back under government control.
As part of his protest against privatisation, more than one crore signatures were collected across the state.
Jagan has now given the green signal to send copies of these signatures from the YSRCP office in Tadepalli to the Governor’s office. Later, while addressing a meeting of party leaders, he issued yet another strong warning.
Jagan described the privatisation of medical colleges as a “mega scam” and accused the Chandrababu Naidu government of not hesitating to indulge in large-scale corruption.
He alleged that the government is not only handing over medical colleges to private individuals but is also planning to pay their salaries using public funds.
According to Jagan, the government has decided to spend around ₹120 crore per year per medical college from the state exchequer. Questioning the move, he asked whether there could be a bigger scam than this.
Jagan went a step further by issuing a direct threat, stating that within two months of YSRCP coming back to power, those who took over the medical colleges would be sent to jail. He also warned that a strong lesson would be taught to Chandrababu Naidu.
Following Jagan’s warning, discussions have begun over who would be willing to come forward to develop the medical colleges under the PPP model.
His latest remarks clearly underline how determined he is to stop the privatisation of medical colleges at any cost.
