In a way, Tuesday was a day of relief for the YSR Congress party leaders and the party sympathisers, as they got a big relief from the courts in Andhra Pradesh, in connection with various cases.
First, the state high court issued a two-week stay on proceedings in a case filed against YSRCP president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and others in connection with the death of 70-year-old Singayya in a hit-and-run case involving the former chief minister’s vehicle during the latter’s visit to Palnadu on June 18.
The high court directed the police not to take any further action during this period. The case came up for hearing on Tuesday, following a petition filed by Jagan seeking quashing of the FIR.
Advocate General Dammalapati Srinivas requested two weeks' time to submit video evidence and other material to the court.
However, lawyers representing Jagan argued that the case had already been reclassified under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and therefore, the court should grant protection from arrest and further action.
In a separate case, former MLA and YSRCP leader Vallabhaneni Vamsi Mohan was granted conditional bail by the Nuzvid Court in the fake house site pattas case.
Arguments were heard on Tuesday, after which the court issued bail on the condition that Vamsi provide two sureties of Rs 1 lakh each and appear at the local police station twice a week.
Vamsi had been in judicial remand at the district jail prior to receiving bail. With this order, he has now secured bail in all ten cases registered against him so far. He is expected to be released from jail on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, former MP Nandigam Suresh, who was arrested in connection with an attack on Isukapalli Raju, was also granted bail. He was released from Guntur district jail on Tuesday after spending around 44 days in remand.
In another case, YSRCP sympathiser and journalist Krishnam Raju, who was arrested for making derogatory remarks against women from Amaravati during a discussion on YSRCP-affiliated Sakshi TV, was granted conditional bail by the state high court. He was released from Guntur district jail on Tuesday.
As per the high court's order, Krishnam Raju was required to submit two sureties of Rs 10,000 each, cooperate with the investigation, and appear before the investigation officer once a week.
