Padayatra a futile exercise, says JC

Padayatra a futile exercise, says JC

It has been quite some time since one has heard from senior Telugu Desam Party leader and former MP from Anantapur J C Diwakar Reddy, who has virtually been keeping away from active politics these days.

Known for his straight talk and pungent comments against his own party leaders, Diwakar Reddy on Wednesday made some sharp criticism on party general secretary and former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s son Nara Lokesh.

Reacting on the ongoing padayatra by Lokesh, the former Anantapur MP said such yatras have become outdated.

“In the present day politics, there is no value for padayatras and they have become an outdated political strategy,” he said.

He pointed out that the people had stopped taking such yatras seriously.

“They are least bothered about the padayatras these days, as they have higher expectations from the leaders,” he said.

Diwakar Reddy said in the past, there used to be a lot of euphoria among the people when their favourite leader took up padayatra.

“There used to be spontaneous response from the people for such yatras. Now, there is no such euphoria. They are all paid yatras involving crores of rupees,” he said.

Though he did not specifically named Lokesh in his comments, it was pretty evident that he was referring to the young leader’s padayatra.

It is a different matter that nobody takes Diwakar Reddy seriously these days, despite his frank talk.
