Naidu Not To Talk Of Kapu Quota Again!

Former CM N Chandrababu Naidu is learnt to have decided not to make any statement hereafter on the demand for Kapu reservations under Backward Classes quota.

According to sources close to the party, Naidu has also given strict instructions to his party leaders and spokespersons not to talk about Kapu reservations issue in their press conferences or public statements.

“Whatever we had to do we had done in this regard. During our regime, we extended five per cent reservations to Kapus under Economically Backward Classes category. We also forwarded the assembly resolution on inclusion of Kapus in the OBC list to the Centre,” Naidu reportedly told the party leaders.

If there is any question from the media on this issue, the TDP chief suggested to the party leaders to stick to this stand and not to go beyond it. The Kapu quota issue will not be on the agenda of the TDP hereafter.

Apparently, Naidu is learnt to have realised that the Kapu reservation issue, which he had taken up before 2014 elections to attract Kapu votes, had turned to be counter-productive for the party in 2019 elections.

“By deciding to include Kapus in the OBC list and passing a resolution to that effect in the assembly, the TDP chief antagonised the BCs who had been the backbone of the party right from the beginning and they voted against the party in 2019,” sources said.
