Murder attempt on Jagan: No bail to accused

Murder attempt on Jagan: No bail to accused

A special court for National Investigation Agency (NIA) cases in Vijayawada on Tuesday expressed its inability to grant bail to J Srinivas Rao, the accused in the murder attempt on YSR Congress party president and present Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy at Visakhapatnam airport on October  25, 2018.

Srinivas, who has been languishing in bail for the last five years, moved the bail petition again before the NIA court, but the judge said granting bail was not under his purview.

He suggested that accused could approach only the Supreme Court, as the state high court had already struck down his bail plea.

The NIA court directed that Jagan’s counsel submit his arguments in writing before the court and posted the case to July 11.

Srinivas’ lawyer Abdul Saleem said the accused has asked the court to announce the regular schedule till July 11.

“If it refuses to do so, Srinivas threatened to take up indefinite fast within the jail,” he said, adding that justice would be done only if there is a speed trial into the case.
