Veteran politician and former Union minister for civil aviation P Ashok Gajapathi Raju has finally cut off his 43-years-old association with the Telugu Desam Party, following his appointment as the Governor of Goa by the Central government early this week.
On Friday, Ashok Gajapathi Raju sent a letter to TDP Andhra Pradesh unit president Palla Srinivasa Rao stating that he was tendering his resignation from the primary and life-time membership of Telugu Desam Party with immediate effect.
He also wrote to Palla Srinivas Rao that he was stepping down as the member of the TDP politburo, in which he had been a permanent member for several years.
In the letter, Raju said he had got the opportunity to be a foot soldier of the party since its inception and was allowed the good fortune to primarily serve the people.
“This is something I would forever be indebted to, particularly to late N T Rama Rao garu and Nara Chandrababu Naidu garu as party presidents,” he said.
“Now that I have been given the responsibility to take on the role of Governor, State of Goa with the blessings of Hon'ble Prime Minister and you, it would be in the fitness of things to detach myself from party formal affiliations given the traditions and precedents of the new role I would be assuming,” he said.
Raju thanked the party leadership for providing me an opportunity to serve as a member of Telugu Desam Party and through the forum, serve the party, people and nation.
