No release of Vyuham before AP polls?

The much-hyped and much-controversial film “Vyuham” made by maverick director Ram Gopal Varma, based on the important events in the life of YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, is unlikely to be released before the coming elections.

The Telangana high court on Monday issued orders suspending the censor certificate given to the film - Vyuham and directing the National Board for Film Certification, also known as Censor Board, to review the film yet again.

The court asked the NBFC to submit the review committee report in three weeks. Till such time, the film shall not be released anywhere in the state.

The court gave the directions based on a writ petition filed by TDP general secretary Lokesh, who raised several objections over the content of the film.

If one were to go by the court orders, it will take at least a month for the court to take a final decision, depending on the censor board review committee report. Even if the board gives a report in favour of Varma, there is no guarantee that the court will accept it.

By that time, the Election Commission of India is most likely to announce the election schedule and any decision on releasing films and advertisement material would have to pass through the committee of the Election Commission.

In all probability, the release of the film Vyuham might not happen before the elections and the whole purpose of making the film will be lost, say sources.

On the other hand, another film on Jagan’s life history – Yatra-2, made by Mahi Raghava is all set for release in the first week of February. The film has apparently come out well without any controversial elements in it.
