Nimmagadda Gears Up For Municipal Polls

State Election Commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar is now getting ready for the municipal elections.

Nimmagadda had expressed satisfaction over the conduct of the Gram Panchayat elections, which were concluded on Sunday.

He thanked and congratulated the officials for the successful conduct and expressed similar coordination from the administration for the municipal elections.

Though he had earlier expressed doubts and fears over the unanimous elections, he looked satisfied with the unanimous elections limited to 16 per cent by the end of all four phases.

The SEC will meet Governor Biswa Bhushan Harichandan on Monday evening and brief him on the successful conduct of the panchayat elections.

Meanwhile, Nimmagadda held a video conference with chief secretary Adityanath Das and DGP Gautham Sawang besides the senior officials of the municipal administration and urban development.

Perhaps for the first time, Nimmagadda had said that he would consult the state government on holding MPTC and ZPTC elections.

It was initially felt that Nimmagadda would retire without hold elections. But surprisingly, he is set to hold all elections including the MPTC and ZPTC before he retires on March 31, 2021.

The state government had already given consent to hold municipal elections and accordingly schedule was released.

Now, the SEC is planning to resume the MPTC and ZPTC elections immediately after the municipal elections, which are scheduled to be closed on March 14.

The SEC might release the schedule and even issue notification for the MPTC and ZPTC elections in the first week of March and complete the process by the end of third week.
