Apparently disturbed by the continued nuisance from the police as well as the media, the family members of tennis star Sania Mirza have decided to perform her marriage with Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik on Friday night itself.
It everything goes well, the marriage will be solemnised between 7 and 8 pm, in the presence of family members of both Sania and Shoaib, besides a select invitees. The house was cleaned this morning and was being decorated for the wedding. “However, if there are any last minute problems, we will defer the wedding,” family sources said.
Initially, the marriage was fixed on April 15 evening, which was to be followed by Valima (dinner) in the night. But in view of the controversies surrounding Shoiab and that he might to complete certain legal formalities before the case filed against him by his alleged first wife Ayesha Siddiqui is completely withdrawn, it was felt that the earlier the marriage is performed, the better. So, it was advanced to Friday.
However, there was a minor hitch in the morning. The chief qazi, Ahmetullah Pasha, who is to solemnise the wedding, refused to perform the marriage unless Shoaib possesses the passport, since it is an inter-country marriage. As this was flashed in the media and created further commotion, Sania’s parents requested him to accept the Xerox copy of the passport as evidence. Finally, Qazi agreed for the same and decided to would administer the oath.
Among those who have flown into the city are Shoaib's mother Sultana Farooq, brother Adil Malik, sisters Shazia Imran and Sadaf Imran, nephew Mamoon Imran and niece Zainab Imran. Shoaib and his kin are expected to return to Pakistan two days after the wedding.
