Wake Up, You're Fired: Oracle’s 6 AM Layoff Horror

Wake Up, You're Fired: Oracle’s 6 AM Layoff Horror

Thousands of Oracle employees reportedly woke up to a shock they never saw coming — a 6 AM email informing them that their jobs were gone.

According to reports, Oracle has laid off around 12,000 employees in India, while nearly 30,000 jobs have been cut globally as part of a wider restructuring exercise.

Another round of layoffs is also said to be likely within a month, though the company has not officially commented on these numbers.

For many employees, the most painful part was not just losing the job — but how it happened.

The termination mail, reportedly sent by Oracle leadership, bluntly informed employees that their roles had been eliminated due to “broader organizational change” and that the same day would be their last working day.

The message reportedly read: “We are sharing some difficult news regarding your position. After careful consideration of Oracle’s current business needs, we have made the decision to eliminate your role… As a result, today is your last working day.”

Employees were also told they would be eligible for a severance package after completing the formal paperwork.

But for many, the severance did little to soften the emotional blow.

Several affected employees took to social media, calling the move cold, mechanical, and deeply unsettling. One employee said the layoffs created fear, frustration, and uncertainty across the workforce, not just among those who were directly impacted.

Another questioned the logic behind the move, saying the company appeared to be spending heavily on severance while still hiring in other areas.

One post that struck a chord online read: “No handshake, no goodbye — just silence. One click is all it takes to erase a career.”

Another emotional post came from a user who said his father was laid off after 20 years of service, just two years before retirement.

He wrote that there was not even a phone call, only an email.

The layoffs have once again raised serious questions about how global tech giants are treating employees in the era of large-scale restructuring and AI-driven cost cutting.

For many at Oracle, this was not just a layoff. It was a reminder of how quickly years of loyalty can disappear in a single email.
