This City Offers Quicker US Visa Slots

For Indians planning to travel to the United States, securing a visa interview appointment has become a major hurdle.

However, one important factor is now making a significant difference in the waiting period; the city where the applicant chooses to attend the interview.

Recent data suggests that US visa wait times vary sharply across Indian cities, and selecting the right consulate can save applicants several months of waiting.

At present, Chennai appears to be the most favourable option for those applying for visitor visas (B1/B2). Reports indicate that applicants there are getting interview slots in roughly one month, making it the fastest city in India for US visitor visa appointments.

In contrast, major cities such as Mumbai and New Delhi continue to face heavy backlogs. In Mumbai, the waiting period is reportedly close to nine to ten months, while in New Delhi it is around seven to eight months.

This wide gap in processing times is forcing many applicants to rethink where they should book their appointments.

Other cities offer a more moderate waiting period. Hyderabad continues to see relatively long wait times similar to Delhi, while Kolkata is said to be offering appointments much sooner than several other locations, making it another possible option for applicants looking for quicker access.

Interestingly, while visitor visas are facing long delays, categories such as student visas and work visas are reportedly moving at a faster pace, offering some relief to those travelling for education or employment purposes.

This variation in waiting times has become highly relevant for applicants, because the difference is no longer just a matter of a few days or weeks.

In some cases, choosing the right city could mean the difference between travelling within a month and waiting almost a year.

As a result, many applicants are now actively comparing visa wait times across different Indian consulates before locking in their appointment. Some are even willing to travel to another city within India if it helps them secure an earlier interview date.

The larger picture, however, remains clear. The US visa system in India is still dealing with high demand and significant backlog, especially for visitor visas. But for those willing to plan strategically, the choice of city can make a major difference.

At the moment, Chennai stands out as the best option for applicants looking to get a US visitor visa interview sooner than elsewhere in India.

For many travellers, that one decision could save valuable time and help turn long-pending US travel plans into reality.
