Nagender Turns Pro-Telangana!

Minister for Labour Danam Nagender, who had hitherto been strongly opposed to the bifurcation of the state and instead demanding autonomous status to Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, so as to safeguard the interests of the Seemandhra people residing here, has suddenly changed his mind.

He dropped a bombshell on Monday saying there were enough indications from the Centre that Andhra Pradesh is going to be bifurcated very soon. He made it clear that Hyderabad would be the common capital of Telangana and Andhra for 10 years.

“I have got credible information to this effect. And I don’t think there is any possibility of Hyderabad being made a union territory,” he said.

Interestingly, Minister for Civil Supplies D Sridhar Babu also echoed a similar view, stating that Telangana state formation is going to be a reality and Hyderabad will be part of Telangana. So was the statement of senior leader Palwai Goverdhan Reddy, who said the Centre was consulting KCR in this regard.

Apparently, the Congress high command is said to have consulted Nagender to elicit his views and sought to know whether the people of Hyderabad were in favour of Telangana. His views are important because he represents the elite sections of Hyderabad in the assembly.
