Centre For T-State, But Undecided On Hyd?

The Centre is said to be more or less decided on bifurcating the state, but confused about the state of Hyderabad, which is the bone of contention between the Telangana and Seemandhra protagonists.

According to reports from New Delhi, the Centre has two options before it: to make Hyderabad as the common capital of Andhra and Telangana for a period of five or 10 years; or declare it as a union territory with considerable autonomy. While there might not be much objection from Seemandhra leaders as well as Telangana for the first option, there will be strong opposition to the second option from the Telangana people, though it is acceptable to the Seemandhra people.

In any case, it is pretty clear that the Centre will not give Telangana state with Hyderabad as the capital straightaway, but will keep the fate of Hyderabad hanging in balance. It is said to be in the final stages of negotiations with the stakeholders, particularly Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhara Rao and Seemandhra leaders.

An announcement onTelangana is expected by January 22, say sources.
