Telugu Ganga Becomes NTR Project

The State Cabinet which met on Saturday named the prestigious Telugu Ganga project after former chief minister and Telugu Desam founder, N T Rama Rao.

NTR was the chief architect of the Telugu Ganga project, which is mean to supply drinking water to Chennai and irrigation water to parts of Rayalaseema district. NTR took special care in this project following special requests from Tamil Nadu governments.

The naming of the prestigious project, for which land from farmers was also acquired, is an attempt by the Congress to win over the rival Telugu Desam sympathizers.

The Cabinet also named several other projects after some important personalities including Dr B R Ambedkar, Mahatma Jotirao Phule and Babu Jagjivan Ram.

The lift irrigation project at Pulivendula is named after former chief minister, Kotla Vijayabhaskara Reddy, an arch rival of the Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy.

Similarly, the Pranahita-Chevella project is named after Dr Ambedkar, followed by Sujala Sravanthi of north Andhra after Jagjivan Ram, Dummugudem project on Godavari after Jotirao Phule and Galeru-Nagari after King Srikrishna Devaraya.

With these names, the YS Cabinet felt that it could win the hearts of the NTR sympathizers, besides, the Dalits, BCs and the supporters of Kotla and PV Narasimha Rao family.

By naming these projects, will the Congress get more votes from the loyalists of these leaders?
