Trade Talk: Below Par Opening For Dhruva

First big ticket film from Tollywood after demonetization is here. Business circles have been keenly waiting for the first day numbers of Dhruva as it would set the tone for upcoming big releases post demonetization.

Dhruva’s opening day collections have been below par as feared. The effect of cash ban is evident across B and C centers, where the film failed to register housefuls on its first day.

Early morning shows and morning show collections were fine as loyal fans of mega family made sure to watch the movie at the earliest.

Collections from matinees are not up to the mark indicating that it would be tough going for Dhruva in the coming days.

Talk is generally positive and reviews are also in favor of the film, but the drop in collections on first day must be worrying its makers and buyers.

Despite good content and engaging screenplay, Dhruva has limited appeal as it may not impress female audience and the frontbenchers. These factors will surely impact its box office performance as universal appeal is a must for any movie to survive the cash crunch.

Among last week releases, Manyam Puli was successful and Bethaludu didn’t live up to expectations. EPC had a solid third week in A centers.
