Why So Hurry In Demolishing Secretariat?

At a time when the Telangana state, more so Hyderabad, has been reeling under Coronavirus pandemic with number of Covid-19 cases on the rise with every passing day, the state government headed by CM KCR seems to be very eager to construct a swanky new Secretariat complex.

“This is nothing but a foolish step taken only for false prestige of the chief minister amidst the global Covid-19 pandemic crisis,” BJP official spokesman K Krishna Sagar Rao said.

While chief ministers across the country are busy building and expanding infrastructure to accommodate Covid-19 patients, unfortunately the Telangana state has a chief minister, who is busy demolishing the existing infrastructure, which can easily be turned into a massive facility for thousands of Covid-19 patients, he said.

“The state is in the middle of a serious public health crisis spike in Covid-19 cases and people are dying in hoards with lack of medical support and hospital beds since few weeks,” Rao alleged.

The BJP leader said Telangana was rated as the second highest in the rate of infection, while it stood at number one position in conducting lowest number of tests for Covid-19 in its population category.

“KCR seems to be hardly worried and untouched by these alarming statistics,” he said.

It is unfortunate that the Telangana government was demolishing existing infrastructure which could be very well turned into a makeshift Covid-19 hospital to meet the existing demand for hospital beds.

“We believe that the old secretariat buildings complex could have been easily turned into a 20,000-bed facility. As the buildings are located in the heart of GHMC area, they could have been the best location to use for Covid-19 treatment. These buildings are functional and strong, and demolishing them is a pure waste of tax payers money,” he said.

Describing KCR as incompetent and incapable to rise to the occasion to serve people of the state who are in serious health crisis, Krishna Sagar Rao said the chief minister had prioritised his own whims and fancies over public health in the state, by brazenly demolishing the old secretariat buildings.
