Why non-Kamma NRIs silent on capital shift?

Why non-Kamma NRIs silent on capital shift?

The decision of the YSR Congress party government in Andhra Pradesh led by chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy to form three capitals for the state with administrative capital being shifted from Amaravati to Visakhapatnam has triggered unrest not only in the farmers of Amaravati region, but also among the non-resident Indians (NRIs) in the United States and other parts of the world.

The anguish among the NRIs is understood to some extent, because a large number of them had put in their money in the real estate activity in Amaravati region.

Some of them had invested in projects like Happy Nest and APNRT Icon Tower etc, and also in software companies in and around Amaravati.

Interestingly, reports from the US indicate that majority of these NRIs who are staging protests and also very actively canvassing against the capital shift plan in the social media are said to from Kamma community.

In fact, some of the Kamma NRIs have come down from the US and have been actively participating in the agitation against the capital shift from Amaravati. They are also raising funds for sustaining the Save Amaravati movement.

Many of those who are donating money to the Joint Action Committee are from Kamma community.

For example, as many as 49 people had donated big money to the NRI JAC in New Jersey to run the Save Amaravati movement and everyone of these 49 people are from Kamma community.

“Don’t know why people from other castes are so irresponsible and don’t have any love for the state. Let us hope people from other castes also join the movement,” an NRI JAC leader lamented.
