Telangana BJP moves HC against MLAs' suspension

The Bharatiya Janata Party Telangana unit on Tuesday filed a petition in the state high court challenging the suspension of the three BJP MLAs from the assembly for the rest of the budget session on Monday.

According to one of the suspended MLAs – M Raghunandan Rao of Dubbak assembly constituency, the party had petitioned the high court questioning the propriety of suspending the MLAs for three days, thereby breaching their privilege.

At the same time, the Telangana BJP led by its president Bandi Sanjay Kumar has also decided to submit a petition to President of India Ramnath Kovind seeking intervention in revoking the suspension.

Raghunandan Rao said the party was confident that the judgement would be in their favour in the high court. In the past, the Supreme Court struck down similar suspension of YSR Congress party MLA R K Roja.

He alleged that Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy was acting like a puppet in the hands of the TRS government.

He demanded that the Speaker should disclose under what section the BJP MLAs were suspended.

The BJP member recalled that in the past, Harish Rao made humiliating comments against the then Governor and even climbed his bench.

“He cannot teach us moral lessons,” he said.
