Sharmila to test electoral fortunes from Khammam

Sharmila to test electoral fortunes from Khammam

YSR Telangana Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy’s sister Y S Sharmila has chosen a safe seat to make a debut in the electoral politics of Telangana.

On Friday, Sharmila announced that she would be contesting the next assembly elections from Palair assembly constituency in Khammam district.

Located on the borders of Andhra and Telangana, Palair has a sizeable number of settlers from Andhra and hence, Sharmila thought she might not face much difficulty in winning the seat.

It was a Congress bastion earlier and later, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) gained hold over the same.

“It is my place and I am emotionally connected to the people of the constituency who always loved my father Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy,” Sharmila said, after performing ground-breaking ceremony for her party office in the constituency.

She symbolically held the soil of the region, and vowed to stand by the people of Palair in their thick and thin.

Recalling late YSR’s contribution and concern for Palair, Shamila mentioned that Palair reservoir was repaired during his tenure and more than 20000 houses for the poor were delivered in the constituency.

Through Nagarjuna Sagar and SRSP, 2 lakh and 70000 acres benefitted, thanks to YSR’s efforts. Around 108 villages in various mandals received safe drinking water, she said.

“From power subsidies to granite factories to ensuring all sections benefited through infrastructure and welfare programmes, YSR always held the constituency in high prominence, assuring all schemes reached poor and the needy, be it Arogyasri or minority reservations, fees reimbursement to free power, to name a few,” Sharmila recalled.

Announcing that she will contest from the constituency, YS Sharmila said this decision has been taken to ensure her late father’s welfare schemes reached one and all.
