Sharmila firms up contest from Palair on Cong ticket!

YSR Telangana Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy’s sister Y S Sharmila on Saturday gave a clear indication that she would be joining the Congress party soon and would be contesting from Palair assembly constituency in Khammam district.

After paying tributes to her father late Y S Rajasekhar Reddy at his samadhi in Idupulapaya in Kadapa district in the morning, Sharmila returned to Hyderabad, from where she flew down to Palair.

She garlanded her father’s statue and addressed the public saying she would stand by her words that she would dedicate her life for the people of the constituency.

“I took a vow on the soil of Palair that I would strive for bringing back the glorious welfare state envisaged by YSR and standing by the farmers,” she said.

Stating that as the daughter of YSR, I would serve the people of Palair, Sharmila said she would soon continue the padayatra and conclude it in Palair, which would be her destination.

That Sharmila would join the Congress was once again evident from the way she thanked Rahul Gandhi for his affectionate words in paying tributes to her father on the latter’s birthday on Saturday.

“Thank you @rahulgandhi ji for your affectionate words, reminiscing late Dr YS Rajashekara Reddy on his birth anniversary. Dr YSR was a committed Congress leader who died in the service of Telugu people, believing in the bright future for this country under your leadership,” she tweeted.

She further added that YSR model of welfarism remains the preferred model of governance across the country even to date.

“Thank you Sir that Dr YSR remains in your heart,” Sharmila said.

Rahul tweeted: “My tributes to senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, YS Rajasekhara Reddy ji, on his birth anniversary. He was a visionary leader who devoted his life to the betterment of the people of Andhra Pradesh. He shall always be remembered.”
