It has been nearly two years since the three crucial barrages of Kaleshwaram lift irrigation scheme on Godavari River suffered damages due to heavy floods to the river.
The incident has been at the centre of both technical and political controversy.
Now, after two years, the Revanth Reddy government has decided to carry out repairs on the Annaram, Sundilla, and Medigadda barrages, based on the investigations carried out by the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA)
On Wednesday, the state government called for expression of interest from reputed design agencies to present designs and drawings for rehabilitation and restoration of Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla barrages based on the NDSA investigations.
The notification said proposals for EOI must be submitted in a sealed cover at office of the Chief Engineer, Central Designs Organisation, 6th Floor, Jalasoudha Building" before October 15. The sealed covers would be opened at 5 pm on the same day.
It may be recalled that the Medigadda barrage suffered subsidence on October 21, 2023, just before the state assembly elections, raising questions over the quality of construction and the safety of the project.
On the allegations of large-scale corruption in the project, the Revanth Reddy-led Congress government had constituted the Ghosh Commission of Inquiry, which recently submitted a 600-page report.
The report was tabled in the Assembly, after which the chief minister announced that the case would be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
There were reports that the CBI is gathering information about the irregularities in the project construction.
Reports suggest that former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), former ministers T Harish Rao and Eatela Rajender, along with senior irrigation officials, may soon be questioned in connection with the case.
However, the CBI has not yet issued any official statement confirming the timing or scope of these interrogations.
