KCR was also responsible for RTC losses!

Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has been blaming it on the employees and workers unions for the sorry state of affairs in the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation.

He is angry with the employees resorting to strike even after the Telangana became a reality.

“They had resorted to strike during the Congress and Telugu Desam Party regimes and ruined the RTC. How dare they strike the work again during the TRS regime as well?” he asked in the meeting with the officials the other day.

But the opposition parties and also social media are pointing out how KCR was also responsible for the huge losses in the RTC.

In fact, the RTC also was one of the push factors for KCR reviving the agitation for separate Telangana state which ultimately culminated in the bifurcation of combined state.

How? Read this. KCR was the transport minister during the TDP regime headed by N Chandrababu Naidu between 1996 and 1999. He was allegedly responsible for large scale irregularities in the RTC.

And as is his wont, KCR used to behave like a feudal lord those days as well. He never used to go to the office regularly as a result of which files were piling up in the transport department offices.

One fine day, then chief minister Chandrababu Naidu conducted a surprise raid on his peshi and found that huge number of files were piling up on his table. Naidu pulled up KCR in front of the officials and department staff.

When Naidu returned to power for a second successive time in 1999, he did not give cabinet berth to KCR and instead, picked up former CBI director K Vijaya Rama Rao, also a Velama, for the ministerial post, as he felt KCR was a lazy bone.

This angered KCR, who was an efficient strategist, but not efficient worker. Though Naidu tried to silence him by offering him deputy speaker post, KCR did not stay in the post for long and took up the Telangana agitation.

Rest is history!
