KCR to attend full session of Telangana assembly?

KCR to attend full session of Telangana assembly?

Speculation is mounting over whether Bharat Rashtra Samithi president and former Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao will attend the winter session of the assembly that resumes on January 2.

According to indications from the party, KCR is contemplating attending the session and participate in debates on Krishna and Godavari river water sharing and the Palamuru–Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme.

After a long gap, KCR recently appeared before the media, sharply criticising the Congress government’s handling of irrigation issues.

He later attended the assembly briefly on the opening day of the previous session, staying only for five minutes, which sparked widespread political discussion.

Sources indicate that KCR has been holding consultations with senior party leaders at his Nandinagar residence and may use the assembly floor to mount a direct attack on the government led by A Revanth Reddy.

The Congress government has finalised its Assembly agenda, with plans for a PowerPoint presentation by Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy on January 2 (Krishna basin) and January 3 (Godavari basin). The BRS has reportedly sought equal opportunity to present its data during the debate.

The chief minister has publicly challenged KCR to attend the assembly and participate in discussions if he has confidence in his claims.

Political observers say KCR is weighing the implications of staying away, as his absence could be interpreted as conceding ground to the ruling party.

According to BRS insiders, KCR believes the government lacks technical understanding of irrigation matters and is prepared for a “direct attack” strategy during the debate.

Even if he does not attend the full session, he is expected to be present during discussions on river water allocations and lift irrigation projects.

If KCR attends, the assembly is likely to witness intense exchanges, counter-allegations, and high-voltage debate, potentially setting the tone for Telangana politics in the months ahead.
