Don't Attend Vijayamma Meeting, Cong Tells Leaders

The invitation extended by Y S Vijayamma, widow of former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh late Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy to several political leaders cutting across political parties, has landed them in deep trouble.

While the leaders from Telangana Rashtra Samithi conveniently chose to abstain from the meeting by going to New Delhi to attend the ceremony of laying foundation stone for the TRS Bhavan, senior YSR Congress party leaders stayed back in Andhra Pradesh taking part in various programmes.

Interestingly, the Congress party gave instructions to its leaders not to attend the YSR memorial meeting convened by Vijayamma.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the Congress leaders from both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh including TPCC president A Revanth Reddy, Andhra PCC chief S Sailajanath and Congress Legislature Party leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka.

PCC working president M Mahesh Kumar Goud said the meeting of Vijayamma was not just a memorial meeting but was politically motivated.

“The All India Congress Committee is closely watching the situation. It has directed the party leaders not to attend the meeting of Vijayamma,” Goud said.

However, former Congress MP K V P Ramachandra Rao declared that he was going to the meeting in the capacity of a close friend of YSR family just to pay tributes to the departed leader.

Interestingly, rebel Telangana Congress leader and Bhongir MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy also announced that he would be going to Vijayamma meeting because of his association with the YSR family.

“This is purely a non-political meeting,” he said.

It remains to be seen what action the Congress high command would take on those who attend the YSR memorial meeting.
