BRS gets tit-for-tat: No permission to Kavitha rally

It was a virtual tit-for-tat for Bharat Rashtra Samithi, whose government in Telangana is known for stifling the voice of the voice of the opposition and denying them their legitimate rights to stage dharna on people’s issues.

In the latest episode, the BRS government denied permission to YSR Telangana Party president Y S Sharmila to stage a silent protest on Tank Bund in Hyderabad against atrocities on women.

The police arrested her and shifted her to Bollarum police station.

Similar public meetings of Pradesh Congress Committee president A Revanth Reddy and Bharatiya Janata Party state president Bandi Sanjay were also denied permission on the law and order grounds.

Now, it was the turn of BRS to face a similar situation in Delhi. On Thursday, the Delhi police refused to grant permission to party legislator and Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s daughter Kalvakuntla Kavitha could not permission to stage a dharna at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Friday.

The police told her that Jantar Mantar is a busy and crowded area and hence, they asked her to shift the dharna location to some other isolated area, a strategy being adopted by the KCR government in Telangana.

Kavitha was obviously feeling humiliated and furious. She wondered how the police, who had given her prior permission, cancelled the same.

She has left for Jantar Mantar police station to registered her protest.

It remains to be seen whether she would shift her plan of action or remain adamant on Jantar Mantar itself.
