NRIs And NRI Doctors Angry With KTR's Words

It is known that KTR recently expressed himself on the Indian healthcare system, at Dallas Meet And Greet event, presenting it in a positive light by comparing it with the U.S. healthcare system, and publicly undermining the latter.

He also expressed support for brain drain, stating that India is not at a loss because Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) are investing heavily in Indian businesses and other ventures, thus contributing back to the country.

Some NRIs especially the doctors seem to be upset and infuriated at KTR's opinion and giving retorts in social media in their groups. One such post is going viral and here it is.

The NRI expressed his views as follows:

“According to KTR, healthcare in India is better than in the USA or anywhere else in the world. How? That’s simply false. Let’s look at some basic facts. In the U.S., during an emergency, an ambulance arrives within five minutes and paramedics begin treating the patient en route to the hospital.

In India, ambulances often take 30 minutes to arrive, and then get stuck in traffic for one to two hours. By the time the patient reaches the hospital, they may be in critical condition or already deceased.

Furthermore, in the U.S., most hospitals are government-funded and doctors are held to high standards through strict regulations and the risk of lawsuits for malpractice. In India, there are very few regulations for doctors.

Many patients are treated by underqualified or careless physicians, and most hospitals are privately owned. Government hospitals are severely underfunded and poorly maintained, which forces the public to rely on private hospitals — many of which operate like profit-making machines, exploiting patients. It’s not uncommon for politicians to receive a cut of these profits.

For the Indian healthcare system to reach the level of the U.S., a lot must change. It starts with being able to transport emergency patients within 5–15 minutes and actually saving lives.”

The NRI also questioned KTR’s views on brain drain:

“KTR seems to believe it's acceptable for the best engineers and doctors to leave India and contribute to the U.S. economy, as long as some of their money makes its way back to India. But what about the long-term loss of talent?

We often boast about Sundar Pichai (Google CEO), Satya Nadella (Microsoft CEO), Indra Nooyi (former PepsiCo CEO), and other Indian-origin leaders in the U.S. How much greater would it have been if these brilliant minds had stayed in India and built world-class companies contributing directly to the Indian economy?

Due to the reservation system and the lure of a better lifestyle, many of India’s top minds from IITs and elite institutions choose to leave the country. The demand for U.S. immigration is proof enough. Only about 5% of them return; the rest stay in the U.S., enriching its economy.

I believe brain drain is a serious problem. Instead of justifying it, politicians like KTR should focus on improving living standards and professional environments in India. Only then can we retain our talent. If not, more and more 'Dallas-purams' will continue to spring up across the U.S.”
